Kim Shurling

Kim began serving as pianist for Maple Avenue in September of 2023. She played piano at the age of 16 at Friendship Baptist church in Austell and then served 10 years as pianist at Fair Oaks UMC in Marietta. She also served as pianist at New Beginnings UMC in Kennesaw, GA before returning to Fair Oaks UMC in Marietta in 2007 where she served as the choir director/pianist for 14 years until Fair Oaks UMC closed. During that time she directed the Fair Oaks UMC choir and played piano for special performances at area assisted living facilities. Kim has acted as pianist at Trinity UMC in Austell, filled in as pianist at St. Stephen UMC in Marietta, and guest performed at Aldersgate UMC in Montgomery, AL. She attended Georgia State University majoring in Music Education/Piano. She has been a legal assistant/paralegal for 36 years, with 34 years at the same Atlanta law firm. Her husband, Bo, works in the movie and TV business. Her son, Charles Higman, is a Marine and served 10 years as worship leader for the contemporary service at Bethany UMC in Smyrna. Kim and Bo’s rescue cat, Lexi, is a spoiled lady of leisure.
